The Farm

Edward Knight and Jeff Gowen

Oak Mountain Farm

Est. 2022

Oak Mountain Farm was established in 2022 by two young farmers and a couple of truly inspirational land owners in Lake Creek, Oregon. Developed with the intention of practicing and experimenting with No-Till and Regenerative agricultural practices here in Southern Oregon. We hope the farm will one day be used as a template and resource for us and other farmers alike. We have been and will continue to be inspired by the agricultural community here in the Rogue Valley and are honored to be servicing this community.

We are thrilled to be bringing our local community high quality, nutrient dense fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, we are even more excited to be growing in a way that is sustainable for us, the farm, and Southern Oregon. We are judging our business' success both financially and by the health of the soil/ surrounding ecosystem. Healthy soil can support healthy plants, and healthy plants can produce healthy food for us all to consume. Can’t wait to grow for you this season.

Jeff Gowen

Owner/Field & Orchard Manager/Farm Irrigation & Infrastructure Tech.

Jeff was born and raised in a small border town in southern Texas, farming is deeply rooted in his love for being connected to the ecosystem around him.

After studying at SOU for environmental science and sustainability, he wanted to put what he had learned into practice. Given the tools at his disposal, he figured the best way to do conservation work was through being apart of a more regenerative and organic food system. This farm, in his eyes, could be a template for that future work.

Efficient irrigation systems are one of the many focuses of Jeff’s work on the farm. He currently works part-time as one of the head irrigation technicians with Ahimsa Gardens, a landscaping company located in Ashland OR. Making Jeff our go to irrigation tech. As well as many credit hours and counting of university and independent level agronomy education courses. Research on soil micro-biology, natural nutrient cycling, and land restoration is where most of Jeff’s energy is focused, making him an excellent resource on managment of annual and perrenial based farming systems.

Jeff hopes to one day educate and consult with other land owners, farmers, and ranchers on how to properly maintain and restore their soil and in turn the ecosystem that surrounds.

Edward Knight

Owner/Field & Orchard Manager/Farm Business Coordinator

Edward was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He spent his youth traveling this beautiful country and fell in love with our National Parks. He had the privilege to live, work, and play in parks such as Yellowstone, Denali, and Kings Canyon/Sequoia. During these years, the beauty that he experienced cemented a deep appreciation and passion for the outdoors.

After moving to the Bay Area in California, he began working at small organic farms and a few landscaping companies. This initial work in the industry inspired him to begin his own landscaping company. Like this farming operation, he implemented regenerative practices. He also utilized professional pruning techniques though the use of manual tools and did not use chemicals of any kind.

He moved to Oregon two years ago and began an internship with the Rogue Farm Corp. After working with Jeff for a season at Runnymede Farm, the next step for them was all too clear: Oak Mountain Farm.

Edward enjoys creating change. That change could be saving water through a more efficient irrigation system, offering a more-nutrient dense product than any store by using local compost and inputs, or by becoming a template for other small farms to easily duplicate. He is working towards land ownership, currently nerding-out on seed sovereignty, and is interested in teaching/mentoring others in creating small-scale, local food production.

Allie Radniecki

Social Media Director/Vineyard Manager

Allie is from a small town in western Washington and moved to southern Oregon to get her bachelors degree from SOU. She quickly began to fall in love with this valley and decided to build a community here. Allie is often given credit that without her this farm would have never happened. Allie was the first to run into our property owners at a cafe and was persistent in nudging Jeff to get up and go sit with a wonderful woman named Pamela.

Coming from a long line of farmers in her family she is no stranger to working in the dirt and the hard work that this line of work entails. Growing up she always knew that farming was going to be apart of her life. Although she’d prefer the company of adorable farm animals, she is grateful to have the opportunity to manage a vineyard, a childhood dream of hers. With no prior experience, Allie has had two seasons with these vines and has made upwards of 25 gallons of homemade wine in her time on the farm.

Allie is also Oak Mountain Farms social media director, managing all of our social outreach and marketing via Instagram and Facebook. Providing social media consultantion and management for businesses located in the Rogue Valey. Some of which include The Great American Pizza Company and Ahimsa Gardens located in Ashland, OR.

Pamela & Rodney Telford

Our Land Owners/Stewards

It was serendipitous that Pam and Rodney were offered this property at the same moment they met Jeff and Edward. Handed down this property from previous land stewards who had cultivated the land for over 25 years. Rodney, hailing from South Africa and growing up on a wildlife reserve, aspired to one day become a steward of land that would host it’s own complex network of wildlife and humans.

The two and a half acres of vinyard, orchards, and gardens left behind by previous owners were a legacy that Pam and Rodney wanted to preserve above all. To honor the memories left to us from our previous land stewards by continuing their work in the field. Having no previous background in agriculture Pam was on the hunt for a passionate individual(s) to take on this project.

So there she was, during COVID, a New Yorker in a mask sitting at a cafe in Ashland, throwing her ideas out to “a pair of sparkling eyes” at another table. After a nudge, we took Pam’s number and followed them out to the beautiful community of Lake Creek OR.

We are forever grateful to our land owners for allowing us the opportunity, support, and privilege to farm along side them and this new community that we have all become a part of.

To Pam and Rondey we say thank you and we love you.

Kiwi

Farm Dog/Gopher Hunter/Fetch Manager

Meet the lackadaisical and lovable Kiwi, our farm dog in training. What he may lack in hunting abilities he makes up for in effort. He let’s us know everyday that he works harder than every single one of us.

Kiwi stumbled into our laps when he was 2 months old on his way to the pound. Right away we knew this pup needed a place to roam and space to out run the wind. We owe him quite a bit of credit for helping us find the farm. After all, it was Kiwi who caught Pam’s eye.

Kiwi is Oak Mountain Farm’s rambunctious farm dog, trying his best to keep the wildlife away and the humans at play.
